THE MORAL IDENTITY OF YOUTH WHO DO NOT SMOKE: INTERNALIZATION PREDICTS THEIR PREFERENCE TOWARDS SMOKING AND NON-SMOKING BEHAVIOUR

A mature sense of moral identity influences psycho-social behaviour and leads to less engagement in risk activities such as smoking. This study aims identify whether (internalization, symbolization) gender are predictive factors emotional valence response smoking non-smoking images. Youth-aged participants (N=347) viewed a series images rated their by using the Self-assessment Manikin. They also responded internalization symbolization items on Moral Identity Scale. The combination explained significant variance (12%) (7%) respectively. Participants with low exhibited 2.4 odds experience high from than those internalization. Internalization indicated predictor is dominant trait rather predicting behaviour. Gender interplays provide an insightful explanation Implication public health program among youth-aged group highlighted.
